With your support we created a program within a large township assisting grandmothers, single mothers and teenage girls to access education, food and s The program gave young girls the chance to fend for themselves rather than be married off at a young age. Many girls have Grace to thank for telling her story so bravely.
Grace is now an adult and has finished her education along with her younger sister Michelle who has started a new life with her family. We must continue to reach many more girls just like them so their stories were not told in vain. Please support us to do this. Thank you for telling your story Grace. Over 7 years ago Esther, Grace and Obert told their stories to millions of viewers.
Their lives changed overnight. As they grow up and forge their own paths - how have their stories changed the lives of other children?
OBERT'S story not only highlighted the dire food challenges of children in isolated rural areas, it opened our eyes to the system schools had adopted of sending children home for non-payment of a small fee. Out of all the Our field officers and partners have worked hard to give children free access back into school and reach over 5, more "Oberts and Esthers" within that area - some stories are even worse and lives have been saved.
During the development of Obert's school we used what we heard and saw to create the three programs we believe will bring both immediate relief and have the most beneficial and sustainable outcome for their education and nutritional health - feeding minds, conservation agriculture and teacher training. Obert is an adult now; he has successfully completed his school life but decided not to continue further education and chosen a different path.
We have made sure Gogo and him have a new home near their extended family and supported them in the best way we could. As we continue with our work in an attempt to alter the cycle of poverty within Obert's community we say thank you to him for telling his story in a way most of us will never forget. Esther's angelic voice and eloquently told story touched the hearts of so many. With the help of NGO's and viewers all over the world she started a wonderful new life with her little sister after her mother sadly died. They cont However Esther's story did not only change her fate, it opened the door to millions of children throughout Africa.
The NGO had, for the first time, film footage of the life of a child before and they were able to show evidence of the amazing work they do, which attracted large donors who would fund more of their work throughout Africa.

At the same time Comic Relief in the UK used their story to show the reality of children's lives in some parts of Africa. Donations came pouring in and hundreds of thousands benefitted. Our March assessment of the 4, children, aged , receiving a meal every day at 6 primary schools and 7 ECD centres pre-schools have shown a profound difference in their attendance levels and school performance. Signs of better health were visibly clear with children's glowing skin, high energy levels and all round happiness. The school that stood out the most was Nyadengu Primary School which is the most under-developed school with an obviously impoverished community.

The difference in the children see photos from our last visit is stunning! The feeding program has been hailed by parents, teachers and the children as bringing remarkable change to the children's lives. Thank you so much to all our supporters especially Ruff's Kitchens. Some with all A's and most have even passed English. This has never happened at this school before and Obert's old rural area school is now NO. With our intervention and your support every child will now have a better life chance!
Thank you to everyone who has made this happen.
It has been a very busy January in Zimbabwe as it is the start of a new school year and the feeding program, with our partner Ruffs Kitchens, progresses and expands further within the rural area of Chinhoyi. The current rainy season has brought heavy rains on very dry land, causing flooding and making our mission of delivering food to remote schools an extremely challenging task.
Thank you to everyone who supports our work as this would not happen without you! Please spread the word and share this link with your friends, family, work, church and school via Facebook, twitter and email. During Grace continued with her studies thanks to you, our loyal donors at the same college she attended to get her Early Childhood Development qualification to be a Nursery teacher.
She is presently looking for more volunteer or paid work as a Nursery assistant, whilst studying.

They are excelling in school as can be seen from the post we previously displayed of Tino reading from one of her school exercise book. Esther is a young teenager now giggling with her friends and asking when she can travel out of Zimbabwe to the UK to meet everyone. She really has no idea! Jump to. Sections of this page.
